Major Awards

The Image and Multidimensional Digital Signal Processing (IMDSP) Technical Committee (TC) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) hereby solicits nominations for the above awards from the general membership of the SPS as well as from non-members.

For the 2006 awards, nominations should be sent by September 1, 2006, to the chairman of the IMDSP TC awards subcommittee, Vivek Goyal (vgoyal@mit.edu), using the appropriate nomination form.  Lists of previous winners as well as more information about the award can be found at the Signal Processing Society Awards page.

Descriptions of the Awards

Society Award

The Society Award honors outstanding technical contributions in a field within the scope of the Signal Processing Society and outstanding leadership within that field. The prize shall be $2500, a plaque and a certificate, and shall be presented at the ICASSP meeting held during the Spring following selection of the winner.

Current officers and members of the Signal Processing Society Board of Governors are ineligible. Previous recipients of the SP Society Award are ineligible. Nominees shall be judged on the bases of outstanding technical contributions and leadership in a field within the scope of the Society as evidenced by publications, patents, books, lectures, etc.

Technical Achievement Award

The Technical Achievement Award honors a person who, over a period of years, has made outstanding technical contributions to the theory and/or practice in technical areas within the scope of the Society, as demonstrated by publications, patents, or recognized impact on the field. The prize shall be $750, a plaque and a certificate, and shall be presented at the ICASSP meeting held during the Spring following selection of the winner.

Current officers and members of the Signal Processing Society Board of Governors are ineligible. Previous recipients of the SP Technical Achievement Award are ineligible. Nominees shall be judged on the basis of technical contributions as documented by publications, patents or recognized impact on the field.

Meritorious Service Award

The Meritorious Service Award honors contributions to the Signal Processing Society. It shall consist of a plaque and a certificate.

The current President of the Signal Processing Society is ineligible. Previous recipients of the Signal Processing Society Meritorious Service Award are ineligible. Judging shall be based on dedication, effort, and contributions. Presentation shall be made at the ICASSP meeting in the Spring following selection of the winner.

Education Award

To honor educators who have made pioneering and significant contributions to signal processing education. To be judged by a career of meritorious achievement in signal processing education as exemplified by writing of scholarly books and texts, course materials, and papers on education, inspirational and innovative teaching, creativity in the development of new curricula and methodology. The prize shall be $1500, a plaque and a certificate and shall be presented at the ICASSP meeting held during the Spring following selection of the winner.
