OPEN DATA FORMAT

The IEEE Common Data Format is not only not flexible, is also limited to static data, which makes it useless for dynamic and market studies. The PowerWorld auxiliary data format and the DigSilent data exchange format have features similar to the XML, with syntax similar to a mark-up language. But those formats are proprietary and are not even well documented. It could be a good contribution indeed for the community to propose a completely free, flexible and well-documented format for power system analysis based on XML or any other mark-up language. At this aim, defining a data format based on XML appears to be a good choice since XML is widely diffused and can be processed by a huge variety of open-source processing tools. A list of links related to the definition of an common XML data format for power system analysis follows.
