Bossa Nova

Bossa nova is a style of Brazilian music popularized by Antônio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes and João Gilberto. Bossa nova (which is Portuguese for "new trend") acquired a large following, initially by young musicians and college students. Although the bossa nova movement only lasted six years (1958 ­ 1963), it contributed a number of songs to the standard jazz repertoire.

Samba

The samba is a musical genre and a type of dance of African roots emerged in Brazil and is considered the national pace for excellence. Considered one of the main cultural events popular Brazilian, samba became a symbol of national identity.

Corcovado

Corcovado, meaning "hunchback" in Portuguese, is a mountain in central Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 710-metre (2,329 ft) granite peak is located in the Tijuca Forest, a national park. Corcovado hill lies just west of the city center but is wholly within the city limits and visible from great distances. It is known worldwide for the 38-meter (125 ft) statue of Jesus atop its peak, entitled Cristo Redentor or "Christ the Redeemer".


Pão de Açúcar

Sugarloaf Mountain (in Portuguese, Pão de Açúcar), is a peak situated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from the mouth of Guanabara Bay on a peninsula that sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean. Rising 396 metres (1,299 ft) above sea-level, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined loaf sugar. However, it is believed by some that the name actually derives from Pau-nh-acuqua ("high hill") in the Tupi-Guarani language, as used by the indigenous Tamoios.


Copacabana

Copacabana is a borough located in the southern zone of the city Rio de Janeiro, known for its 4 km beach which is one of the most famous of the world. The district was originally called Sacopenapã until the mid-18th century. It was renamed after the construction of a chapel holding a replica of the Virgin of Copacabana, the patron saint of Bolivia. It was incorporated into the city on July 6, 1892. Copacabana begins at Princesa Isabel Avenue and ends at Posto Seis (lifeguardwatchtower Six). Beyond Copacabana, there are two small beaches, one inside Fort Copacabana and other, right after it: Diabo Beach. Arpoador beach, where surfers use to go after its perfect waves, comes in the sequence, followed by the famous borough of Ipanema.

Moqueca

Moqueca (pronounced mo-ke-ka) is a traditional Brazilian seafood stew. Brazilians have been making Moquecas for 300 years. It basically consists of fish, onions, garlic, tomatoes, cilantro, chili pepper (pimenta malagueta) and additional ingredients. It is cooked slowly, with no water added. Its two variants are Moqueca Capixaba from EspĂ­rito Santo state in the Southeast, and Moqueca Baiana from Bahia state in the Northeast. It is common for people from these states to claim that their moqueca is the "only true" moqueca.


Churrasco (Barbecue)

When in gauchos Pampas - which covers part of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina - the barbecue was nothing like what we know. Then, around the seventeenth century, yet there is this concern in the beef market, as today; what mattered was the animal's hide and tallow. For that, were carried out vacarias - where large numbers of cattle were slaughtered for the withdrawal of that actually had value then. Then the cowboys cut the piece easier to start and roasted whole in a hole opened in the ground, seasoned it with the ashes of the brazier. And that may be considered the most remote origin of barbecue. Over time, the news that fans began to grow, the preparation was perfect and the meat has become more careful with hygiene.

Caipirinha

The caipirinha is the national cocktail of Brazil, and is enjoyed in restaurants, bars, and many households throughout the country. Once almost unknown outside Brazil, the drink has become more popular and more widely available in recent years, in large part due to the rising availability of first-rate brands of cachaça outside Brazil. The International Bartender Association has designated it as one of their Official Cocktails.
