How to Reach Perugia

By Air

The best way to reach Perugia by flight is to use the Alitalia website, which has flights available both from Milano Malpensa and from Roma Fiumicino.

Other connections with London (Stansted Airport) and Barcelona (Girona Airport) are provided by a low-cost company. For more information, see the Sant’Egidio Airport website (Departure Flights, Arrival Flights). The airport is located 12 km away from the town of Perugia. Bus connections (ticket fare € 2.58) from the airport to downtown Perugia (Piazza Italia) and to Perugia Railway Station are available, with the following timetable:

Departure from Perugia Piazza Italia: 6.15-12.50-16.50
Departure from Perugia Railway Station: 6.30-13.00-17.05
Arrival at Sant’Egidio Airport: 6.45-13.30-17.25

Departure from Sant’Egidio Airport: 14.40-17.50-21.50
Arrival at Perugia Railway Station: 15.10-18.20-22.20
Arrival at Perugia Piazza Italia: 15.15-18.30-22.30

Another option is to land in Rome, Fiumicino Airport, and then reach Perugia by bus or by train. Daily bus connections from Rome Fiumicino Airport (International Departure Terminal C) to Perugia (Piazza Partigiani) are available. Several train connections from the Fiumicino Airport (Fiumicino Aeroporto, do not confuse with Fiumicino) to Perugia are available as well.

 

By Train

To reach Perugia by train, the first option is to arrive from north. In this case, first you have to reach Florence (Santa Maria Novella). Several direct connections with Perugia are available. Otherwise, you could take a train from Florence to Rome and stop in Terontola/Cortona, and from Terontola/Cortona take a local connection to Perugia.

Alternatively, you can arrive from south. In this case, first you have to reach Rome (Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina). Direct connections with Perugia are available. Otherwise, from Rome, you could take a train to Ancona and stop in Foligno, and from Foligno take a local connection to Perugia.

By Car

To reach Perugia by car, there are several options. From north (Milan, or Bologna), take the A1 motorway and exit at Valdichiana (close to Florence), and then take the SS75bis toll-free motorway towards Perugia. By this route, you will coast the Trasimeno Lake. There are five exits to Perugia on SS75bis: Perugia-Ferro di Cavallo, Perugia-Madonna Alta, Perugia-San Faustino, Perugia-Prepo and Perugia-Piscille. The last two (Perugia-Prepo or Perugia-Piscille) are the best ones to reach the old town center.

Alternatively, from north (Bologna), take the A14 motorway and exit at Cesena Nord, and then take the SS3bis (E45) toll-free motorway towards Perugia.

From south, (Naples, or Rome) take the A1 motorway and exit at Orte, take the SS204 toll-free motorway to Terni, and then take the SS3bis (E45) toll-free motorway from Terni to Perugia. A Google map depicting the route can be found here.

In both north and south cases, the Perugia Exit of the SS3bis (E45) toll-free motorway will connect to the SS75bis toll-free motorway. There are five exits to Perugia on SS75bis: Perugia-Piscille, Perugia-Prepo, Perugia-San Faustino, Perugia-Madonna Alta, and Perugia-Ferro di Cavallo. The first two (Perugia-Piscille or Perugia-Prepo) are the best ones to reach the old town center.
