Dear All

As General Chairman and on behalf of the organizing committee, I warmly welcome you to attend the 2nd IEEE Southern Power Electronics Conference (SPEC 2016) which will be held at The University of Auckland in Auckland, New Zealand, from 5-8 December 2016.

SPEC was founded and sponsored by the Power Electronics Society (PELs) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE), with the view to promote Power Electronics and its applications in the Southern Hemisphere, where resources and opportunities to network, share ideas and establish collaborations among members are somewhat limited. SPEC 2016 in New Zealand is, therefore, an ideal opportunity for students, researchers, engineers and academics from all over the world to bring the latest technological advances and applications in Power Electronics to the Southern Hemisphere to promote the discipline. World renowned scholars will deliver keynote and plenary speeches as well as conduct tutorials on topics of global interest. A wide range of technical sessions is also included in the conference program for participants to make contributions towards advances within the field of power electronics.

New Zealand is a small country consisting of two islands, and well known for its beautiful ‘clean & green’ landscape. Auckland, dubbed the ‘City of Sails’, is the commercial hub of New Zealand, and a vibrant and metropolitan city in the North Island. SPEC 2016 is hosted by the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at The University of Auckland, the largest university in New Zealand equipped with state-of-the-art conference facilities and situated in the heart of Auckland.

The conference will be held at the start of the summer season, and an exciting social program, which includes outdoor activities, scrumptious food and fine New Zealand hospitality, is awaiting for you. The organizing committee will ensure that your participation in SPEC 2016 is productive and your visit to Auckland is a memorable experience.
