? Harmonic load is a major source of stress and inefficiency in an electrical system. It causes damage, downtime and expense. Typical power distribution systems at IT, industrial and commercial facilities include a large variety of equipment which produce significant harmonic load. Depending upon the type of facility and process, one may see Uninterruptible Power System (UPS), Welding Machines, Induction Furnaces, Ozone Generator Systems (OGS) and UV Systems (UVS) as connected loads. All this equipment is power-electronics based, non-linear in nature and creates harmonics-producing loads. In addition, a facility may have several electric motors as a large percentage of connected load. In order to achieve energy conservation, for process improvement and automation, many of these electric motors are fed by Variable Frequency Drives (VFDâ??s); another contributor of harmonics. IT equipment as well can be a major source of harmonic load.

This presentation will look into the power system harmonics present in these facilities and how to mitigate them. Specifically covered:
