SLAC is one of the world’s leading research laboratories. Established in 1962 at Stanford University in Menlo Park, California, their mission is to design, construct and operate state-of-the-art electron accelerators and related experimental facilities for use in high-energy physics and synchrotron radiation research. A highly trained and award winning staff of physicists, engineers, computer scientists and other professionals have led to many breakthroughs in science and technology. Their work has been recognized with many awards and honors including three Nobel Prizes in physics.

The tour will start with an overview of the research conducted at SLAC, presented by your tour guide. Next, the tour will include an overview of particle physics research conducted at SLAC, a view of the giant detectors required to observe subatomic particles and a stroll down the Klystron Gallery, the worldâ??s longest building.

Lunch can be purchased at the SLAC Cafeteria for $10-15 per person (come early â?? at about noon or 12:30 PM). After lunch we will move to the Panofsky Auditorium adjacent to the cafeteria for a preliminary presentation before boarding a bus to the Klystron Gallery. The tour is limited to 30 people so register early and parking is very limited so arrive early. The tour will take about 2 hours.
