Around the world, efforts to minimize the environmental impact of a growing vehicle fleet are accelerating.  Government regulations to improve efficiency and reduce harmful emissions are becoming increasingly stringent in all regions.  By way of example, new CAFE standards in the US require manufacturers to raise average fuel efficiency to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, nearly double todayâ??s level.  Such standards are putting tremendous pressure on global automotive OEMs, and the industry has responded with an intense effort to introduce new, more efficient technologies.  Major automakers, Silicon Valley start-ups, universities, National Labs and many other organizations have all made significant contributions.  As a result, today we see many new technologies being introduced in the market, such as electrified powertrains, new engine types and new fuels.  Mr. Bailey will highlight some of these efforts, including the evolution of various technologies worldwide, and also discuss the role of certain key technologies going forward.
