Message from incoming SVEC president Elise Engelhardt of ASME:

You may have heard that I was elected President of the Silicon Valley Engineering Council for this coming year! I’m very excited about this honor and have started planning improvements to make the council more useful to our member organizations as well as attract new members. Our first Full Council meeting for the upcoming year will be on September 26th. I’ll send out details in the next few weeks.

Iâ??d like to introduce the New Officers for 2007-2008.
Elise Engelhardt (ASME), President
Dhaval Brahmbhatt (IEEE), Vice President
Connie Fang (SWE), Secretary
Ed Kaminski (ASMI), Treasurer
DJ Cline (STC), Director
Dan Oprica (IEEE), Director
Jack Jew (SAMPE), Director
John Gale (IEEE), Director

Here are some of the ideas I have for the Council in the upcoming year:
* Focus on bringing our engineering communities more in touch online through an events listing for all our member organization events

* Improve the reach of our mailing list and possibly even start a LinkedIn group
* Work out an agreement between our member organizations to offer reciprocal event registration discounts to the members of other SVEC-affiliated organizations
* Improve our website by including more links to help promote local educational and training opportunities for engineers as well as more opportunities to volunteer for organizations that promote engineering education for kids
* Develop our long-term plan to have a home-base location for the Council. It may start out with something as simple as a closet to store Council materials, but my hope is that one day we will have use of donated office space where our member organizations can hold events. I’d like to hear your ideas about what we could do with such a space so I can develop a description of what we have in mind. (It will never happen if we don’t ask, right?)

I feel that one of the main reasons for the existance of the SVEC is to help our member organizations find and share resources and connections. Iâ??m eager to begin planning a year of exciting new programs with these objectives in mind. Finally, Iâ??d love to hear from any of you who has suggestions or comments and certainly anyone who would like to help us accomplish these objectives. Please be patient with any slow responses as I will be traveling for the next few weeks.

Best regards,

Elise Engelhardt
President
Silicon Valley Engineering Council
