Overview – Lightning Protection of Aircraft and Avionics

Lecture will focus on the lightning environment, the effects of lightning on structure and coupling mechanisms for equipment, commercial and military design/test requirements, protection design scenarios and techniques, certification/qualification plans, and test methods, and procedures.

By: Mr. Rob Majkner, the atmospheric electrical hazards specialist for Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, responsible for lightning and static interaction with all vehicle models including the recently certified commercial S-92, the all-composite RAH-66 Comanche, as well as the H-60, S-76, S-61, and H-53 series aircraft.

Model-Based System Engineering Presentation

The IEEE Aerospace & Electronic Systems Society (AESS) Connecticut Chapter will be sponsoring a joint meeting with the American Helicopter Society (AHS) Stratford Chapter, and the Society Of Women Engineers (SWE) Connecticut.
This special presentation and dinner will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at Oronoque Country Club.

The topic to be presented is “Model-based Systems Engineering of Embedded Systems” by Dr. Hans-Peter Hoffmann, Director/Chief Methodologist for Systems Design, I-Logix, Inc. The presentation will give a state-of-the art overview of model-based systems engineering using classical structured- based and object-oriented (UML) methods.
