The judging criteria for the presentations is given below. A
point structure has been established for different categories.
The primary emphasis is on the student's
communication skills, emphasizing that this contest's
primary function is to improve and help the engineering student
in this area. This tally sheet will be passed along to the
students at the end of the contest.
The students/groups can score a maximum of 100 points. The highest
three scores will be judged to be the first, second and third
place winners. The three winners will be awarded cash prizes.
- Does the speech flow smoothly from introduction to conclusion?
- Does the material follow a logical course and stimulate the
thinking of the audience?
- Are individual topics blended cohesivly ?
- Any doubt as to the main point of the speech?
- Was too much or too little covered in the alloted time ?
- Does the speaker enunciate his words ?
- Is his voice too uniform, too loud, too low ?
- Are visual aids used effectively? Are they easily seen? Understandable?
- Does the contestant seem unduly nervous or display annoying mannerisms?
- Does the presenter assume prior knowledge of topics?
- Are key words/phrases explained adequately the first time they're
used for the benefit of those not entrenched in the topic?
- Is there evidence of appropriate use of others' research and
published reference materials? Is it used effectively to make a point?
- Are original sources properly cited at all times?
- Does the presentation provide original perspective on the topic?
- Is the topic placed properly within the context of its field of
electrical engineering as well as its point in evolution?
- Do conclusions reached show evidence of logical, thorough analysis?
- Does the speaker display a reasonable knowledge of the
subject by answering the questions adequately ?
