If your Student Branch has an innovative idea for a team project, please consider participating in this program. Student Branches can receive up to $1,000 to complete their project. The program flyer was sent to all Student Branch Counselors and Chairs in the August mailing. Awards Brochure and 1999 Student Society Membership Brochures Available A sample of the new awards brochure and poster was sent to all Branches in August. Quantities of the awards brochure and the 1999 student society membership brochures are being sent to all Student Branch Counselors next week. If additional copies are needed, please email student-services@ieee.org. Email Alias The newest IEEE member benefit is the email alias service. All IEEE members can select a personal email alias of their choice. Individuals can register and update on line by visiting www.ieee.org/eleccomm. Any attachments received through this alias will automatically run through IEEE's virus scanning software which is updated monthly. Over 10,000 members have applied for an alias since April 1998. Fall Recruiting Please remember when recruiting new IEEE Student members this fall, only students who will be graduating in 1999 and beyond qualify for IEEE student membership. All new members joining IEEE after 1 September are joining for the 1999 year and will receive membership services until 31 December 1999. 1999 renewal notices have been sent to all active IEEE members. Student Branch rebates. Need some operating money for your Branch, submit your annual report. It is not too late to submit your annual report which was due 1 May 1998 and receive your Branch rebate. Upon receipt of the report, Student Services will send the $1.10 per Branch member rebate based on membership statistics as of 31-Dec-97 to the Student Branch Counselor. For those Branches that have submitted their report, thank you and the rebate checks have been mailed to your Branch Counselor. Annual Plan equals allotment. The Student Branch Annual Plan of Activities is due 1 November or two months after your academic year begins. Yes, it is that time of year again! Use the plan to outline activities for your Student Branch for the next six months and submit it to IEEE to receive your allotment. Student Branch allotments are $25.00 for Branches with 49 members or less OR $50.00 for Branches with 50 members or more based on membership statistics as of 31-Dec-97. Allotment checks will be sent to Branch Counselors approximately one month after we receive the plan. The Annual Plan of Activities covering 1998-99 activities is due as close to 1 November 1998 as possible. If your branch is on a different academic schedule, please send the report two months after your academic year begins. Please send the report to Student Services, so we can record your most current branch officers. In August, the printed Annual Plan forms were mailed to all Student Branch Counselors and Branch Chairs. IEEE is very interested in your activities and we encourage you to use the plan to outline activities for the next year. Remember, according to IEEE Bylaws, your branch must hold at least three meetings a year, keep the branch membership above ten members and submit required reports, including the annual plan and the annual report of activities. To facilitate electronic submission of the reports, please use the electronic mailing lists. By sending the plan or report to the list, you will be sending a copy to IEEE Student Services and your RSAC and RSR. Branch Chairs, PLEASE send the report to your counselor first, for endorsement. Your RSAC (Regional Student Activities Committee Chair) and your RSR (Regional Student Representative) are very interested in your activities and they provide you with important information about Regional contests and conferences and need to be kept up to date too. If you submit the plan electronically, there is no need to also mail a copy.
