Welcome to the IEEE Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Section homepage. The IEEE is the world's largest technical society and is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2009. The IEEE ACT Section is located in Canberra, Australia and serves IEEE members in ACT as well as the surrounding areas in NSW. The ACT Section currently supports chapters for the Antennas and Propagation Society, the Communications and Signal Processing Societies (a joint chapter), the Computer Society and the Laser and Electro-Optics and Electron Devices Societies (a joint chapter). The ACT Section currently has members in 34 of the 38 IEEE technical societies and the executive committee is happy to support activities related to any of these societies. IEEE Members in NSWIf you are an IEEE member living in NSW close to Canberra, you may wish to consider changing your IEEE Section to the ACT Section. To do this you need to fill in a Contiguous Section Affiliation request. Upcoming eventsThe ACT Section will be holding its end-of-year barbecue, Christmas party and annual general meeting on Wednesday 9 December at the Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering at ANU (Look for the Cockcroft/Carver building on Mills road on the southern end of ANU. Free drinks will start from 5.30 pm. On 17 November, the joint IEEE/Engineers Australia presentation will be Professor Chris Baker presenting on "Bats and Radar - How 50,000 years of evolution is inspiring new developments in radar". The Signal Processing and Communications joint chapter is planning five events over November and December. Professor Shoji Makino presenting at 11 am on 16 November at the Research School of Information Sciences and Engineering (RSISE) at ANU, Professor Koichi Asatini at 11 am on 23 November at RSISE and Professor Tony Ephremides at 11 am on 14 December at RSISE.
