IEEE Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Section

Welcome to the IEEE Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Section homepage. The IEEE is the world's largest technical society and is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2009. The IEEE ACT Section is located in Canberra, Australia and serves IEEE members in ACT as well as the surrounding areas in NSW.

The ACT Section currently supports chapters for the Antennas and Propagation Society, the Communications and Signal Processing Societies (a joint chapter), the Computer Society and the Laser and Electro-Optics and Electron Devices Societies (a joint chapter). The ACT Section currently has members in 34 of the 38 IEEE technical societies and the executive committee is happy to support activities related to any of these societies.  

IEEE Members in NSW

If you are an IEEE member living in NSW close to Canberra, you may wish to consider changing your IEEE Section to the ACT Section. To do this you need to fill in a Contiguous Section Affiliation request.

ACT Section activities in May and June 2009

On Wednesday 13 May, the ACT will host a 125th anniversary event starting at 5.30 pm at the NICTA seminar room, 7 London Circuit, Canberra City. Associate Professor Klaus Weber will be presenting on Elongate Solar Cells. The presentation will be followed by a social function at the Uni Pub.  

On Tuesday 19 May, the monthly joint IEEE/Engineers Australia/IET presentation will be given by Dr Mike Ryan, a senior lecturer at the Australian Defence Force Academy. Mike's presentation is titled 'Requirements Engineering - a novel approach for desigining functional architectures and will be held at Engineering House, National Circuit, Barton from 6 pm. Light refreshments will be available from 5.30 pm.

On Monday 1 June Prof. Elya Joffe, the President of the Electromagnetic Compatibility Society will be presenting on the discipline of EMC - for the 'Garbage of Electronics to Systems Engineering'. The presentation will be held at ANU from 5 pm for a 5.15 start.
