Australia Council Activities

On behalf of the Sections, the Council:
  • coordinates Australian visits of international distinguished lecturers,
  • liaises with other technical and professional societies at a national level,
  • promotes IEEE through national activities,
  • supports Australian hosting of major IEEE conferences,
  • acts or responds on behalf of Australian Sections as required from time to time.

Distinguished Lecturer VIsits

Australia Council assists with organising Australian tours by IEEE Distinguished Lecturers and other international visitors.  In 2009, the following visits are planned:
  • Assoc. Prof. Corey Cheng will be visting Australia this October. His lecture schedule in Australia is:
    • Townsville (James Cook University), QLD, on Monday, 13th October,
    • Melbourne (RMIT), on Thursday, 15th October,
    • Melbourne (Victoria University), on Friday, 16th October,
    • Sydney (UNSW), on Wednesday, 21st October.
  • George Schmidt, distinguished lecturer for Aerospace & Electronic Systems Society will be visiting:
    • Melbourne on Wednesday, 14th October,
    • Adelaide on Friday, 16th October,
    • Brisbane on Monday, 19th October.
  • Prof. Koichi Asatani will be visiting Australia in November. Prof. Asatani's lecture schedule in Australia is:
    • Brisbane, QLD, on Friday, 20th November,
    • Canberra, ACT, on Monday, 23rd November,
    • Melbourne, VIC, on Wednesday, 25th November.
  • Prof. Anthony Ephremides, Distinguished Lecturer in the IEEE Communications Society, will be visiting Australia & New Zealand in December.  Prof. Ephremides' lecture schedule in Australia is:
    • Canberra, ACT, on Monday, 14th December,
    • Adelaide, SA, on Wednesday, 16th December,
    • Brisbane, Qld, on Friday, 18th December.

The following events have been announced to help celebrate IEEE's 125th anniversary in Australia:
  • Victoria Section: Students & Young Professionals Dinner in Melbourne, Victoria, on Thursday, 23rd April.
  • Western Australia Section Public Seminar: 'Science is Back: The Obama Administration’s New Science and Technology Priorities' presented by Dr. Kenneth S. Chern, Consul General of the United States of America, in Perth, WA, on Wednesday, 13th May.
