On Oct. 7th 2008, Dr. Michael Lightner, IEEE 2006 Chairman and CEO visits University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), headquarter of IEEE Chengdu Section, by the company of Dr. Ning Hua, Chief Representative and Director of IEEE China Office.

Wang Houjun, Vice President of UESTC, shows warm welcome Dr. Lightner. Wang makes an introduction about the University to the guests. He expresses that UESTC is one of the State Key Universities funded by the “211 Project” and “985” Project; now it is a multi-disciplinary university directly under the Ministry of Education, which has electronic information science and technology as its nucleus, engineering as its major field, and incorporates science, management and liberal arts. Wang also introduces the development situation of IEEE Chengdu Section. And he expresses that the found of IEEE Chengdu Section means a lot to UESTC; it greatly promotes the academic exchange and advances the academic research of the university.

Dr. Michael Lightner is glad to visit UESTC. He said “Chengdu is a beautiful city; and UESTC has a positive and dense academic atmosphere. He gives highly positive comments to the work of IEEE Chengdu Section, and hopes that the cooperation and exchanges between IEEE and the University be strengthened.



Yangrong Li, IEEE Chengdu Section Chair 07/08 & Professor of Department of microelectronics and solid-state electronics, Pingzhi Fan, IEEE Chengdu Section Chair-Elect 08/09 & Vice President of Southwest Jiaotong University, Aiying Di, Director of Office of International Cooperation and Exchange join the meeting.

After the meeting, Dr. Lightner gives a talk about IEEE and a lecture titled “Assistive Technology for People with Cognitive Disabilities” on the campus.
