IEEE Fellows' Visiting to UESTC and SWJTU

The 2nd International Workshop on Frontier Techniques for Wireless Communications was held in new compus of of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu, Sichuan on March 29-30, 2010. Four talks were given by Prof. Khaled Ben Letaief (IEEE Fellow, IEEE Distinguished Lecturer), Prof. Vijay K. Bhargava (IEEE Fellow, IEEE Distinguished Lecturer), Prof. Geoffrey Ye Li (IEEE Fellow, IEEE Distinguished Lecturer), and Dr. Ying-Chang Liang (IEEE Senior Member, Senior Scientist of I2R of Singapore), respectively. These four talks, entitled "Resource Management and Optimization for Wireless Networks", "Multigigabit Wireless Multimedia Communications: Future and Core Technologies", "Cross-Layer Optimization for Spectrum and Energy Efficient Wireless Networks", and "Multi-Antenna Cognitive Radios", roused the audience to strong attention on potential techniques for next-generation wireless communications. About 20 IEEE student member and IEEE members attended this series of seminar.
On morning of March 30, 2010, one panel discussion with Master students, Ph.D. students, and faculties of UESTC was conducted. Different topics, regarding how to improve impact of academic researches, how to make reasonable decision between pursuing Ph.D. degree and employment, and tips for writing IEEE journals/transactions papers, and importance of attending international conferences, are discussed. Prof. Vijay K. Bhargava, Prof. Khaled Ben Letaief, Prof. Geoffrey Ye Li, and Dr. Ying-Chang Liang gave some suggestions and comments with experience of their own personal experiences.
On afternoon of March 31, 2010, a short tour to Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) for Prof. Vijay K. Bhargava, Prof. Khaled Ben Letaief, and Dr. Ying-Chang Liang was guided by Prof. Pingzhi Fan, vice-President of SWJTU and Chair of IEEE Chengdu 09/10 Section.
