IEEE International Symposium on a World of Wireless Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM 2008) Call for Papers New Port Beach, California, June 23-27, 2008 [http://www.ieee-wowmom.org/]
The IEEE International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WOWMOM 2008) will be the 9th event in its series. This symposium intends to provide a definitive forum for networking, software systems and multimedia research in the wireless/mobile area involving both computer science and electrical engineering communities.
WoWMoM is the premier international forum for discussions between researchers, practitioners and students of the technology evolution that is driving toward a world of wireless, mobile, and multimedia pervasive communications where users can seamlessly and ubiquitously accomplish their tasks, access information or communicate with other users all the anytime, everywhere, and from any device.
IEEE WoWMoM 2008 is soliciting original and previously unpublished papers addressing research challenges and advances towards a world of wireless, mobile, and multimedia pervasive communications. The emergence of wireless network standards and their future evolutions offer exciting new opportunities for delivering rich multimedia content over wireless networks. Users will be able to seamlessly and ubiquitously accomplish their tasks such as accessing and retrieving information, communicating with other users or devices, exploiting advanced context-dependent services, and so on.
Papers that present work, validated by experimentation, simulation, or analysis, are solicited. Practical experiences and experimental efforts from both industry and academy, duly documenting the lessons learned from test-beds, field-trial, or real deployments, are also welcome. Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the EDAS system.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
System prototypes and experiences QoS for voice and video in wireless/mobile networks Middleware support for QoS provision Networking services for pervasive systems Context-aware wireless multimedia application s Location mechanism and services Content m anagement and d istribution IP-based wireless/mobile multimedia services IP-based wireless/mobile networks Multicasting and broadcasting issues Energy-efficient protocols and power management Handoff and mobility management Seamless internetworking and self-organization Network management and control Wireless BAN, PAN, LAN, MAN , WAN, and RAN Ad-hoc and mesh networks Vehicular networks Wireless Sensor Networks Opportunistic Networking Security, privacy and dependability Pricing and accounting Modeling and p erformance evaluation
IEEE WoWMoM 2008 technical program will also include one-day workshops and industry sessions on hot topics on wireless, mobile and multimedia networks.
A downloadable PDF version of the CFP can be found here.
Best Paper Award and Fast Track Publication
The best paper presented at the symposium will be awarded with the Best Paper Award sponsored by the Elsevier Journal of Pervasive and Mobile Computing (PMC).
Papers of particular merit will be considered for a fast track publication in the Pervasive and Mobile Computing Journal.
Important Dates
Submission deadline: November 15th, 2007 November 25th, 2007 (Extended) Acceptance notification: Feburary 15th, 2008 Camera-ready version deadline: March 31st, 2008
Call for Demos and Posters
SUBMISSION DUE : February 15, 2008 (before 23:59:59 PST)
WoWMoM 2008 solicits proposals for live demonstrations and posters of novel technology, platforms and applications in mobile computing. Posters and demonstrations will be presented at a reception during the conference. The demo session presents an excellent opportunity for authors to present early protypes of new or ongoing research and interact directly with the conference attendees. Abstracts of accepted demos will be published in the conference proceedings. A BEST DEMO AWARD sponsored by Elsevier will also be presented during the conference. We strongly encourage submissions from both the industry and universities.
Submission Instructions:
All submissions must include an extended abstract and should be no longer than three pages in standard two column IEEE format, including all figures, tables and references. The authors should clearly describe what they intend to demonstrate. All submissions must include infrastructure requirements and the author list, including affiliations. Submissions must be made electronically (in PDF format) in a single email message to the Demo Chair at with the subject as "WoWMoM 2008 DEMO SUBMISSION".
