[ Recent Activities ]

▪ IEEE Daejeon Section in Republic of Korea has been proud to be one of the sponsors of the first “Web-Based Open IPTV Workshop”, July 2-4, at Jeju Island. During the Workshop, there were lots of informative presentations relating to the technologies for enabling IPTV, and precious discussions among the participants. There were five introductory presentations by professors of Information and Communications University, Korea. Those were about technologies of smart client, middle-ware platform, networking problem relating to web-based IPTV. Also, there were sparkling discussions on scenario and structure for IPTV services to customers. Additionally, since most of the participants were IEEE members and student members, and they talked a lot to find out ways for having the more vigorous activities of IEEE Student Branches

▪ This year, Daejeon Section in Republic of Korea has encouraged the vivid activities of Student Branches. For the reason, the banners of Student Branches were made and distributed to 5 Student Branches. Every branch will use and display the Branch banners for every IEEE-relating activities. This is expected to encourage the members and also non-members to give more attention to IEEE and its activities.

▪ Committee Meeting on June 25, 2008

The third IEEE Daejeon Section Committee Meeting in 2008 was held on June 25 at Samwon Restaurant, Daejeon, Korea. In the meeting, there was a lively discussion on the co-sponsorship for conference hosted by IEEK Daejeon branch and workshop of CR technology hosted by KIEES. We decided to make flags for every Student Branches within Section which can be used for students to advertise IEEE and its relating activities, resulting in the possible increase of new members.

주요 회의 내용

1. 학술대회, 워크숍 등의 행사에 대전 섹션이 후원 가능하면 적극 후원하고 홍보하고 이를 명시함 (재정적 후원이 꼭 필요하지 않아도 됨)

- 현재 예정된 행사로, 전자공학회 대전지부 학술대회(이희덕 교수님 담당), CR 기술및 전파정책워크샵(전자파학회, 최용석 교수님 담당)에 대전 섹션 후원을 명시하기로 함

2. 전자공학회 대전지부 학술대회에 대전 섹션이 지원하는 우수 학생 논문상을 만들어 선정, 수상하기로 함 (구체적인 선정 방법이나 부상금은 이희덕 교수님과 최준균 의장님께서 협의하여 결정)

3. Student Branch 별 현수막(branch flag) 제작하여 배포 (7월중으로 완료. 서봉수 교수) à Section flag 를 제작하신 함진호 박사님과 상의

4. Fellow Membership 가능한 분들은 개인적인 노력이 필요한 바 주변의 회원들이 개인적으로 fellow 준비 작업을 촉구하기로 함

5. Secretary 인 서봉수 교수가 오는 7월말부터 1년간 해외파견을 나가게 되어, 회의 소집 연락 등의 기본 업무는 최준균 교수님의 비서분이 처리하며, 섹션 Flag, 사진, 회의록 정리 등의 작업은 이희덕 교수님이 도와주시기로 함.

The second Committee Meeting in 2008 was held on March 25 at Kumsoo-Bokook Restaurant, Daejeon, Korea. In the meeting, there was a lively discussion on the promotion of various activities such as sponsorship of technical activities, recruitment campaign for new students, support of application for upgrading membership and maintenance & update of the web server. - 참석자 : 8명 (최준균, 김창봉, 이형호, 정해원, 최용석, 함진호, 서봉수, 이종민(ICU 박사과정)

- 주요 회의 내용

1. 학술대회 및 워크샵 관련

- 전자공학회 (CEIC) 및 통신학회 등의 학술대회 스폰서 지속

- 섹션 자체 학술대회/워크샵 개최

(함진호 박사님님 2건, 정해원 센터장님 2건, 최준균 교수님 2건 추진 요망)

(등록비 문제는 전자공학회 등의 협조를 통하여 진행하며, 수익금은 학생 회원 등록비 등으로 환원함)

2. 멤버쉽 관련

- 대전 섹션내에 Membership 상향 추진. 우선적으로,

Fellow 멤버 추진: 강민호 (ICU), 김대영 (충남대), 이형호 (ETRI) (본인의 노력이 반드시 필요)

(KAIST 조동호 교수님이 성단근 교수님 Fellow 추대건으로 잘 알고 계심)

Senior 멤버 추진: 정해원 (ETRI), 함진호 (ETRI)

- 대전 섹션 멤버 E-mail 주소록 확보 (서봉수 교수가 확보 방법을 알아내서 최준균 교수님께 알려드릴 것)

- 이를 이용하여 필요시 섹션내 회원 전체에게 메일을 보내기로 함 (이종민 학생)

3. 기타 안건

- 섹션 홈페이지 ( http://ewh.ieee.org/r10/daejeon ) 관리 및 업데이트 방안

--> 서봉수 교수 관리, 연간 100만원의 비용을 지원하기로 합의 함.

- 이병기 교수님 Communication Society 회장 출마건 --> petition 마무리됨

- 새로운 Chapter를 만들 경우 활발한 활동이 요구되으로 신중히 고려하여 추진해야 함.

▪ Committee Meeting on January 31, 2008

The first Committee Meeting in 2008 was held on January 31 at Kumsoo-Bokook Restaurant, Daejeon, Korea. In the meeting, Prof. Jun Kyun Choi (ICU) has been elected as the section chair for the year 2008 and 2009. The committee members discussed the yearly activity plans such as sponsorship of technical activities, recruitment campaign for new students, support of application for upgrading membership.

▪ Successful ICACT2007 on February 12-14, 2007

The 8^th and 9^th International Conference of Advanced Communication Technology (ICACT 2006 and 2007), together with the technical sponsorship of IEEE Daejeon Section, were held so successfully at Phoenix Park, Korea on February 20-22, 2006, and on February 12-14, 2007 individually. The ICACT 2006 consisted of 79 technical sessions with 442 papers from 27 countries and an invited session, where 427 participants joined. The ICACT 2007 provided 426 participants with 70 technical sessions of 432 papers from 26 countries and an invited session with remarkable world experts. ICACT 2008 will be held with some events for our 10^th anniversary on Feb. 17-20, 2008 at the same place. (http://www.icact.org)
