Brief Report on the IEEE 2010 Joint International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems & 2010 Power India held from 20th Dec 2010 to 23rd Dec 2010 at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi & India Habitat Center, New Delhi, India

 

On Dec 20, 2010 Pre-Conference (PEDES-2010-POWER INDIA) Tutorials were held in the EE Dept of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, New Delhi, India with – Session - I on “Enhancement of Power System Stability Using Adaptive and AI Control” by Prof. O. P. Malik (maliko@ucalgary.ca), ECE Dept, University of Calgary, Calgary, AB, T2N 1N4, Canada, Session – II on “HVDC Transmission Systems (Past - Present – Future)” by Dr. Vijay K. Sood (vijay.Sood@uoit.ca), Associate professor at UOIT, Oshawa, ON, Canada, Session – III on “Design & Development of Technical Training programs for Engineers working on the Vestas Wind Turbine Ltd”  by Mr. K Vasanth (vakal@vestas.com), Head, Technical Training Department - India / Asia Pacific, Vestas, Chennai, India (organized by PES-IAS Delhi Chapter with the support of  PELS-IES Delhi Chapter). 29 IEEE Members & 66 non-Members attended.

 

Three-day (from Dec 21 to 23, 2010) 2010 Joint International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems (PEDES) & 2010 Power India was held with 7 Plenary Sessions, namely, on Dec 21 Session – I  on “Current research in core loss measurements in laminations for variable speed drive machines” by Prof. Pragasen Pillay (pillayp@clarkson.edu),  Jean Newell Distinguished Professor in Engineering, ECE Dept, Box 5720, Potsdam, NY 13699-5720, USA, and Session - II on “Role of smart monitoring and robust control in future electricity networks” by Dr. Bikash C Pal (b.pal@imperial.ac.uk), IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer, Imperial College, London, on Dec 22 Session - III on “A Comparison of Converter Schemes for Fuel Cells to a Single-Phase Utility Line Interface” by Prof Ashok Bhatt (bhat@ece.uvic.ca), ECE Dept, University of Victoria, B.C., Canada, Session - IV on “Mechatronics in Wind Turbines”  by Mr. R Prabhkaran (prram@vestas.com), Control System Layout, Vestas Technology R&D, Chennai, India, and Session - V on “Recent Developments in FACTS Technology” by Dr Kalyan K Sen (senkk@sentransformer.com), IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer, Sen Transformers,  Pittsburg, PA, USA, on Dec 23 Session - VI on “Sequence Based Orbital Existence of a Class of Switching System” by Prof. Sudip K. Mazumder (mazumder@ece.uic.edu), Director of Laboratory for Energy and Switching-electronics Systems and Associate Professor ECE Dept, University of Illinois, Chicago, IL. USA. and Session - VII on “Smart Grid –Electric grid of the future” by Prof. Rajit Gadh (smartgrid@winmec.ucla.edu), UCLA WINMEC Director / UCLA SMERC, CA, USA, and 176 papers presented in 36 sessions covering 4 tracks, Electrical Machines, and Drives, Power Electronics, and its Applications, Power System Planning, and Design, and Smart Grid, and Energy Sustainability (organized by PES-IAS Delhi Chapter with the support of  PELS-IES Delhi Chapter). 86 IEEE Members & 72 non-Members attended.

 

In addition, there were 4 Exhibition Stalls of GE, Vistas, Opal-RT Technologies, & SPI Engineers.
