About IEEE
IEEE stands for The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.
IEEE was founded in 1884. In 1912 the Institute of Radio Engineers was established, which was merged with American Institute of Electrical Engineers in 1963, to form IEEE.
Today, IEEE is the world's largest technical professional society devoted to advancing the theory and application of electrical engineers, scientists and other professionals. The society serves almost 315,000 electrical engineers, scientists and other professionals in approximately 150 countries. A non-profit organization, IEEE promotes the development and application of electro-technology and allied sciences for the benefit of humanity, the advancement of the profession and the well-being of its members. The technical objectives of the IEEE focus on advancing the theory and practice of electrical, electronics and computer engineering and computer science.
The objective of the society is to introduce the latest trends and advancements in science and engineering to the members and to generate an interest, and eagerness to learn more about a diverse range of topics included in the vast realm of electrical engineering. In order to accomplish that, the society conducts its activities on regular basis, publishes journals and newsletters, and provides a conducive environment for intellectual development of members.
