The Singapore Water Reclamation Study (NEWater Study) was initiated in 1998 to determine the suitability of using NEWater as a source of raw water to supplement Singapore's water supply. NEWater is treated used water that has undergone stringent purification and treatment process using advanced dual-membrane (microfiltration and reverse osmosis) and ultraviolet technologies. NEWater could be mixed and blended with reservoir water and then undergo conventional water treatment to produce drinking water (a procedure known as Planned Indirect Potable Use or Planned IPU).

The NEWater Visitor Centre promises you a great learning experience. Be immersed in a world of water, especially NEWater, and be edutained!  The virtual guide "Wave" will direct you each step of the way through the NEWater Visitor Centre. You will be edutained by multimedia presentations and computer interactives. At the end of the experience, you will have a comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of water-related topics, especially on NEWater and its uses.

You will also get to see a NEWater factory that is incorporated in the NEWater Visitor Centre. You will be able to witness first hand the operation of advanced membrane and ultraviolet technologies in the production of NEWater.

The half-day city tour will bring you to visit part of the old and new areas of Singapore.

Visit the Merlion Park - a popular tourist attraction that has made its place among the famous landmarks of great cities of the world.

Visit to Thian Hock Keng Temple - one of the oldest Chinese temples in Singapore, it was a main point of disembarkation for the early Chinese immigrants. These immigrants then offered their prayers of thanks to the main deity of the temple, Ma Cho Po (Mother of the Heavenly Sages), for protecting them during the sea journeys. All the building materials were imported from China.

Visit to Mt Faber - overlooking the busiest port in the world with over 600 shipping lines sending super tankers, container ships and passenger liners to share the busy waters with coastal fishing vessels and wooden lighters.

Visit to Chinatown - the largest of Singapore's historic area.  It is also the first 'home' of the Chinese community in Singapore.  Swarms of immigrants from Southern China from different dialect groups left their mark on the street names and places of worship.  Interestingly, the South Indians also found their niche here, establishing shops, temples and mosques in Chinatown.
