IEEE International conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)
The 6th IEEE International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS) 2011 is to be held in Kandy, Sri Lanka from 16th to 19th August 2011. ICIIS 2011 is organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. The IEEE Sri Lanka Section, IEEE Sri Lanka Central Region sub section and IEEE Kharagpur Section provide the technical sponsorship for the conference. The Comsoc has invited Prof. George Rouskas to give a series of lectures on "Next Generation Internet" in mid August 2011. He is also due to deliver the keynote address at the ICIIS2011 conference (refer above). His tentative schedule is given below.
- 15th August – Lecture at University of Colombo
- 16th August – Lecture at University of Moratuwa
- 17th August – Keynote address at ICIIS , University of Peradeniya

Establishment of new chapters
Discussions are underway to establish two new chapters on "Industrial Electronics" and "Robotics and Automation" within IEEE Sri Lanka section. Those interested in joining can email the ExCom for more details.New IEEE Student branch
The SLIIT has also joined as our newest student body. They organized a lecture titled "What went wrong in Fukushiman Diichi Nuclear power plant" by Prof. Nilanga Liyanage on May 27th 2011.IEEE Sri Lanka section AGM
The AGM of the IEEE Sri Lanka section was held at Waters Edge, Battaramulla on the 20th March 2011. At the above AGM Dr. Rohan Munasinghe was elected as chair for the current year. The event was well attended.
