CIS-PEAC RoboLab ChallengePEAC (Primary Extension and Challenge) is an enrichment programme for gifted and talented state primary school children in Western Australia. The WA CIS branch makes a contribution to the PEAC programme through our RoboLab Challenge. In this event students are set the challenge of making Lego robots that solve a problem or exhibit certain behaviours. Following the first Challenge, Dr Cesar Ortega-Sanchez, who played a primary organising role, stated: "The event this morning was a great success. The kids had the opportunity to see how similar their robopets are to "real" industial robots. It was great to hear them describe their pets in terms of behaviours rather than components. I think they rightly got the idea that intelligent behaviour is an emergent property of the way sensors, actuators, computers and software are connected." The event has now been successfully run three times.
