From the Chair

Welcome to newsletter #2 for 2006. In this newsletter we are celebrating Fathers Day 3rd September. There are two sides of the parent-child relationship that we discuss in the articles firstly the role of fathers in giving their children an awareness of the world, which can include engineering. The other is the opportunity to Dads to become more involved with their kids when Mum is working, studying or having time to herself.

I have wonderful memories of being my Dads little apprentice as he would repair, invent and construct around the house. He explained how and why things worked, and clearly enjoyed the wonders of machines. Years later I get phone calls for help with his computer and he gets calls to help with my home projects and thats the way we like it.

To find out more about the IEEE and WIE, please visit our website https://ieee.org/wawie . On Monday 4th September we are presenting a public seminar on Aspergers Syndrome and Autism && Engineering and Computing: Facts Theories Realities. In October we will have a seminar/workshop on Finances and Investing for Women looking at how women can create choice for themselves though financial management and we will workshop the firsts steps to get you started.

We hope you enjoy this little tribute to Dads and have a great Fathers Day.
