Report and Approval of Minutes
Sept
meeting minutes approved. There was no October meeting.
- Bill and Randy attended the Section Congress last month. This occurs every three years. The next congress is 2002 in Baltimore-Washington, area usually Columbus Day weekend. Hope to send Excom. There were about 40 recommendations resulting from this conference.
- Next Excom meeting, December 13, 1999 - invited speaker is Jim Watson, Coordinator IEEE-USA Region 2 Student Professional Awareness Committee (SPAC). His talk will focus on how to better utilize and support student members.
- The section sent nominations for Millineum award for Region and Societies.
- Nominations for the Engineering Society (Baltimore) are due on December 15. The awards are for Engineer of the Year and Young Engineer of the Year. Last year Kate Carus was awarded the Engineer of the Year.
- Our total membership is over 4,000 members (4,117 including the subsection).
- There was some discussion on what should be the official IEEE logo in Ads (i.e., IEEE in block letters with the right hand rule (?))
- There was discussion about IEEE HQ reporting a deficit and reallocating the allotment of funds to entities. Will keep section rebates? What should the "model" be? If there is no revenue, no $$ rebate? "Concentration" banking is still being considered.
- The Eastern Shore Section (DE to VA) will be disbanded as of Jan 1, 2000 if not resurrected. The bulk of the members can be assimilated in the Baltimore section, some can go to Norfolk. Students would be from Salisbury State and UMES.
- February is the deadline for submitting Chapter Reports (meetings and treasurer's financial report). Send meeting reports to Section Secretary (Carole) and Section Treasurer (Vil) respectively.
- We will vote on next year's budget next meeting in December meeting.
- Treasurer Vil reported that our funds are dwindling to a point where we have to pay bank charges. The minimum is $ 5,000. Will consider another bank. We are experiencing several problems with the current bank, Crestar.
- Chris attended the ADCOM meeting on the IMTC 2000 in Atlanta. Suggested that IEEE sell membership and merchandise. Proposed to but 3 computers and least to IMTC -- then donate to student chapters.
- For the Robot project, a request of (NTE) $2,600 allocated expenses was accepted.
- The decision to purchase Pagemaker and Photoshop will be deferred until next meeting.
- May 10, 2000 is the proposed date for the Chapter Chairs Dinner. Tom Patton is requesting for a list of invitees and is soliciting for a speaker. Send your suggestions to Tom.
- Official ballot for 2000 candidates should be forwarded/mailed to John Dentler by November 30. Chapters should send in a new list of officers for 2000 to Section Secretary (Carole) and to Watts New editor (Dave). [Electronic version is preferred to avoid mistype especially those with long e-mail addresses.]
- Finally, Chapter Chairs or designated representatives reported on their specific Chapter activities.
