Jeff Friedhoffer chaired the meeting, which was called to order at 6:30 pm.

Executive Reports

Section Chair (Jeffrey Friedhoffer)

Received a request for $300 donation from the Engineering Society of Baltimore. To be considered at a later date.
Earlier suggestion: Section to donate an LCD projector (2000 lumen, ca. $2,500) with one spare bulb to the HEM. The LCD will also be for the Section’s use. Proposal was voted and unanimously accepted.

Section Vice-Chair (Brian Sequeira)

As a former Section Secretary Brian presented a detailed list of all Section’s and Chapters’ meetings in 2003. Forwarded electronic documentation, archive and helpful info to newly elected Secretary, Boris Gramatikov.
Minutes of the December 2003 meeting were posted on Section website. Copies distributed at today’s meeting. John Dentler moved that minutes be accepted, Jeff Friedhoffer seconded, and minutes carried unanimously.
Officers’ list to be compiled till the end of January by the Chapter Chairs (Action 1.1).

Secretary (Boris Gramatikov)

As an outgoing Treasurer Boris reported on the status of the Section’s bank accounts as of December 31, 2003: $12,567.35 with SunTrust (local account), and $36,172.07 in IEEE concentration banking (Mellon).
The Section’s financial spreadsheet has been balanced and a budget for 2004 has been worked out (with John Dentler’s help).
A request for financial information from the chapters has been sent out, needed for the preparation of the L-50 form for 2003, to be submitted to IEEE.
The Section’s SunTrust checkbook was handed over to the new Treasurer, Roberto Cuellar.

Programs (Chris Nemarich):

Celebration of our Section’s Centennial

Had generated a proposal for the Centennial celebration, which was also broadcast by email prior to the meeting, and was also included in the January 2004 Newsletter. There were several issues requiring input from the Executive Committee, like 1) Section subsidy, 2) Speaker (technical or high profile politician), etc.
Jeff Friedhoffer discussed the different alternatives with the Executive Committee. At the end it was unanimously decided that $30 should be paid per ticket, and former and present Section Chairs should be invited to the Section Centennial Dinner, which will be held on Saturday February 28, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. at the BWI Marriott. The celebration will feature a banquet, guest speakers and ceremony.
Reservations and payment must be made in advance, no later than February 20, 2004.
Chris will develop a budget and will also advertise in local media.

Student Activities (Neville Jacobs)

Distributed a written report on the status of Student Activities.

There has been a significant growth in Robot kits ordered during the past two months
A workshop will be held for Teachers and Mentors at the Museum of Industry on Jan 24, 2004.
The Robot project has been entered in a new IEEE Database prepared for sections seeking to introduce a program for pre-college students.
Need to be actively soliciting IEEE members willing to serve as judges for the Robot Challenge.
PACE issue – Neville made a justified proposal to go by academic year, rather than calendar year.

New Business

Consultants Network - Dave Pfaltzgraff:

Would be interested in organizing a Consultants group for networking in the Baltimore region, similar to the NSAC which is active in the DC area, mainly for government organizations. A Baltimore region network could function efficiently for industrial professionals.Dave Pfaltzgraff was offered financial support for several meetings, in order to find out what interest there is in the Baltimore region. He will set up an affinity group, and is expected to fill the necessary forms and obtain the endorsing signatures.
