1. INTRODUCTIONS

2. EXECUTIVE REPORTS

·         Chair (Boris Gramatikov)

·         All chapter chairs invited to this evening’s meeting. Only LEOS sent regrets.

·         Power Electronics Chapter first meeting scheduled for 27 March

·         L50 and officer reports submitted on time

·         Feb 23 Engineer’s Week Student Dinner was held. Dr. Ben Cole of NSA was the speaker. Need to discuss IAS lack of funding for Student Dinner. Section committed to funding 50% of the dinner of an estimated $4700. Friedhoffer motioned that the expenses be covered in full. Motion passed. BGE committed to help sponsor Engineer’s Week Dinner.

·         Reinforced need to re-establish communication with IAS.

·         Drexel University Student Branch Chairman contacted Section. Organizing Student Activities Conference. Previously supported heavily by Region 2. Less so this year. Asking for Baltimore Section support. Recommendation from R2 Director was that the local student chapters who want to go the Student Activities Conference should contact the Baltimore Section for support. Part of the objective was to make contact between Section and student chapters. Jeff Friedhoffer agreed to help close the loop with the local student chapters.

·         Opened the matter of what to do with AES. Suggestion was made to send out to AES mail list that decision will be made in June whether to disband the chapter if no interest is shown. Notice to be made on the web site.

·         Moved to increase donation to HEM to $700 for IEEE use. Motion approved and passed. Still needs to be approved by IEEE HQ.

·         Vice Chair (Bob Cuellar)

·         L50 has gone through. No longer handling Section finances.

·         Treasurer (Bill Semancik)

·         Financial report was given. Request for $800 from WIE. Record keeping requirements for section was discussed. Section has kept all financial records. IEEE HQ guidance is that 7 years is required. Requested that Baltimore Section keep financial records only 7 years prior to current year.

·         Secretary (David Sherman)

·         Not present. Meeting minutes taken by Bill Semancik. Please send comments to Bill Semancik (wsemancik@ieee.org) for any corrections.

3. CHAPTER CHAIRS AND INDIVIDUAL REPORTS

PES (Dewayne Daley)

·         Detailed the reimbursement issues for the dinner. Submitted receipts. Submitted 206 PES budget. Have all officers positions filled. BGE will pay for first 50 members to join PES.

Tom Patton (Awards)

·         Inquired about VIPs to be invited to the banquet. Dinner will be May 10 at Snyder’s of Willow Grove. Would like to invite new fellows to the banquet. Last year’s cost was about $35/person which was reasonable. Bob Berkovitz will take pictures again. Still looking for a speaker for the dinner. Suggestion was made that a break be made in the agenda so that student’s could leave.

Chair emeritus (Jeff Friedhoffer).

·         Robert Runser will be Baltimore young engineer of the year award. Baltimore section will probably be asked for sponsoring a 10 person table. Friday 31 March. Motion made and carried to sponsor a table. Boris will be circulating a message.

Student Activities (Neville Jacobs)

·         Currently 107 teams from 33 schools registered for the challenge. ~ 38% increase from last year. International Technology Education Association is being held in Baltimore Convention Center. IEEE will have a joint booth with ASME and ASCE for 3/23 and 3/24. Still needs some coverage for March 23rd. Neville will present an invited paper on the Robot Challenge. It is 5 weeks until the challenge. More volunteers are needed. Judges needed by 0845 for 22 Apr and 1230 for 23 Apr. Would like to consider cameras and projectors to make the activity more of a professional show.

·         Have receipts for meetings last year that he needs to submit.
