Congressional Visits Days Scheduled for March 3 and 4

By Howard Needham, Chair, Washington Section

IEEE members in the United States are invited to take part in the 2004 Science, Engineering, and Technology Congressional Visits Day (SET CVD), to beheld on 3 and 4 March 2004 in Washington, D.C. Members will deliver the message to Congress that federally funded research promotes security, prosperity, and innovation.

SET CVD is an annual two-day event that brings scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, and technology executives to Washington to raise visibility and support for science, engineering, and technology. Uniquely multisector and multidisciplinary, the SET CVD is coordinated by coalitions of companies, professional societies, and educational institutions and it is open to all who believe that science and technology are the cornerstone of our nation's future.

The objective of SET CVD is to raise awareness of the long-term importance of science, engineering, and technology to the nation through face-to-face meetings with members of Congress, congressional staff, key administration officials, and other decision-makers.

The program includes orientation, briefings on the R&D budgets of government agencies, breakfast meetings and receptions on Capitol Hill, and visits to congressional offices. Typically about 25 IEEE members participate, with several from the Washington and Northern Virginia Sections.
