Advanced Hybrid Joining Technology by Dr. Vladmir Shkolnikov
This presentation, following the sponsored free pre-lecture buffet dinner, will be focused on advanced shipbuilding methods utilizing composite materials. Past efforts at large composite ship construction has been very difficult due to material inconsistencies, composite-to-metal joints, and design of stress tolerant structures. All materials-dependent technical and engineering students and practitioners should attend to hear how use of novel lightweight and design-flexible materials are being utilized. There structures have the potential to have thermal and electrical active components and sensors built directly in to them.

In Memory of Richard P. O'Shea
Richard Paul O'Shea, Ph.D., 74, died at 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 18, 2009, at McCullough House.
He was born on Feb. 11, 1935, in Johnstown, to Clarence Michael and Anna (Heinrich) O'Shea;
and preceded in death by parents; and brothers, Paul Michael, who died in 1934; and Clarence
Joseph, who died in 1986. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived
by sister-in-law, Agnes O'Shea, nieces, Dianne O'Shea; his goddaughter, Deborah Hollinger; and
Donna O'Shea; nephew, William O'Shea; and five great-nieces and great nephew; also cousins,
Rose (Heinrich), married to John Concannon; and Mary Lou (Heinrich), married to Dave Rutledge,
all of Johnstown; and Anna Marie (Cronin), married to Cyril "Buddy" Engbert, Davidsville.

Members of The Johnstown Section GOLD (graduates of the last decade) Affinity Group are requested to participate in the annual Johnstown GOLD Officer elections. This is your oppurtunity to provide input to determine who will serve on the IEEE Johnstown GOLD Leadership Team for the calendar year January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2010.
The IEEE Johnstown GOLD nomintating committee is reaching out to Members of the GOLD Affinity Group to identify officer candidates for the 2010 elections. GOLD Officer Nominations are open for the following positions: Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary.
IEEE GOLD Member interested in serving as an IEEE Johnstown GOLD officer may submit their nominations by petition. The petitions must be signed by three or more voting Members (voting Members are Graduate Student Member, Member, Senior Member, or Fellow grades whom are current members whom live in the geographic region (Johnstown Section)) and must be received by the Johnstown Section no later than midnight on November 15, 2009.
