Every once in awhile we like to bring you information on what's happening within the IEEE that you may not know about and which is of interest to the public at large. Today, that covers the first draft of the Broadband over Power Lines standard (IEEE P1901), which was recently completed by the IEEE P1901 Working Group. The actual distribution of broadband may not mean a lot to people, but consider that this is yet another method that may be used to deliver a high speed Internet connection to a location, competing with the existing phone line, cable, and satellite options. As increasing competition generally leads to decreased prices, this is definitely a step in the right direction. What's more, the fact that power lines already supply virtually every location there is, the infrastructure costs may be very low, allowing broadband over powerlines to make high speed Internet access affordable and reliable to areas which are traditionally non-viable markets to Internet Service Providers (ISP). |

Tom will be serving as our first GOLD Chair. If you have any ideas for GOLD meetings in the future, would like to assist with GOLD events, or would just like to be notified of GOLD events,
