============================================================= Minutes of IEEE/LVS/SSCS/Executive Committee Planning Meeting 22Jul2014 - 6 PM at Rosanna's Restaurant, Bethlehem, PA ============================================================= In Attendance: -------------- Robert Peruzzi, Roger Minear, Ian Rippke, Dale Nelson, Betty Nelson, Robert Walden, Richard Booth, Bradley Natarian, and Glen Offord Minutes: -------- The minutes of the previous meeting (24Mar2014) were reviewed and approved. Treasurer's Report: ------------------- Roger presented current expenditures year-to-date of $1022.41. This included $500 for the Morton Paper Contest, 2 public lectures, and planning meeting expenses. Roger verifies expenses and has LV IEEE treasurer, George Beam, write the checks. It was remarked that the Distinguished Lecturer program is chapter friendly as IEEE international picks up many of the speaker's expenses. Technical Talks: ---------------- * Luke Turgeon, President of Turgeon Engineering, presented his work on a high amperage current source (300A) - 22Apr2014 * Distinguished Lecturer Kiran Gunnam's talk on 1May2014 was very technical. * Distinguished Lecturer John Long's talk arrangements to be finalized tentatively in October probably on wireless inductor application; Action Item: Paul Davis to arrange. - open * Doug Lopata was contacted by Peruzzi. He was too busy to commit at this time. possible future; Dale contacted Pete Bronner who is seeking talk approval. - open * Distinguished Lecturer Triple-Header Road Show In a very aggressive undertaking, Bob Peruzzi is attempting to organize 3 speakers for the same day in a one day conference. These speakers would also speak at Princeton and Columbia. The suggested venue: o Michael Flynn A/D conversion o Payam Heydari RF design o Frank O'Mahony High speed, Low Power Data Links o Alternative speakers: - Hossein Hashemi : RF transceivers - Jacob Baker : Analog/Mixed-Signal Circuit Design o After considerable logistic discussions, the time flow may be: - 3PM : Meet and Greet - 4PM : 1st speaker - 5:15PM : 2nd speaker - 6:30-8PM : Dinner at Lehigh Campus Dining Hall - 8PM : 3rd speaker o The lecture date is still open. 3 suggested dates were withdrawn due to conflicts and student attendance reducing Lehigh University activities (ie., Lehigh-Lafayette game weekend). Dates still under consideration are Oct 15-17 and Nov 5-7. Bradley Natarian's (Lehigh University IEEE student president) insights were formative in this discussion. Dinner Dance: ------------- Bob Peruzzi reported that the 3May2014 Dinner Dance at the Hellertown Silver Creek Country Club went well. Planning Meeting Venue: ----------------------- Sammi's Pizza has instituted a room charge ($80) which could not be negotiated away. Glen found his suggested replacement restaurant had gotten a bit seedy and was no longer being considered. Dale had contacted a restaurant in Kutztown.
