NEW: photos from recent outreach events

On Saturday, April 22, 2006, IEEE GOLD of Northern Virginia sponsored an outreach event at the Emery Recreational Center in Washington DC, helping a group of young students through the inner workings of some consumer electronics items.
On Saturday, February 18, 2006, GOLD volunteers helped to staff the IEEE-USA tables at the Discover Engineering Family Day event at the Natiional Building Museum.
On Saturday, December 10, 2005, IEEE GOLD of Northern Virginia sponsored an outreach event at the Emery Recreational Center in Washington DC, taking a group of young students through the assembly and use of a laser communicator project.

On Thursday, Sept. 15, GOLD Officer Van B. Le gave a presentation on "Preparing for the CISSP Exam." This event was co-sponsored by the NoVA Computer Society and was held at the Oracle Facility in Reston, VA. The slides are available in PDF form here.

On the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 10 (2-4 pm), we had a networking event at Chevy's TexMex Grill in the Ballston Common Mall. Thanks to our attendees and also to all those who submitted survey forms!

On Saturday, April 9, IEEE GOLD of Northern Virginia sponsored a third outreach event at the Parkview Community Center in Washington DC (Warder St. and Otis Place, NW), bringing a touch of engineering to some kids in DC who might not otherwise learn about these subjects. A group of IEEE volunteers tutored about a dozen kids and adults through the development of some basic HTML Web Pages.

PDF file of electric motor construction project, held at Parkview Rec Center in November 2004 (the coil form is about one inch in diameter. Make sure to sand only the bottom side of the coil tails.
