2012 OfficersSection officers are responsible for assuring that the Section is operated in accordance with the IEEE and Section Bylaws. They advise Section members (i.e., Chapters) on the polices and plans for the Section and manage the operations, budget, records and correspondence of the Section. Officers are volunteers who have been elected to serve one-year terms. Officers of the Northern Virginia Section for 2012 are as follows:
Friends and Family Many of the Section's leading volunteers are not IEEE members at all but friends and family of members. The Section has created a volunteer position to provide a point of contact for the IEEE Northern Virginia Section extended family. You are welcome to contact our Family Liaison to network with our NoVA Section family and learn about volunteer opportunities.
IEEE Member and Geographic Activities IEEE's 400,000 members worldwide are divided into ten geographic regions. Northern Virginia Section is the largest IEEE Section in Region 2, which covers the mid-Atlantic Eastern United States. With Washington Section and Baltimore Section, the three Sections comprise the South Area of Region 2. The Regional leadership includes a Director and Director-Elect, each serving two-year terms, and four subregional Chairs. Northern Virginia Section reports to Region 2 Director Dr. Ralph Ford through Ms. Carole Carey, Region 2 South Area Chair. On January 1, 2013, Dr. Parviz Famouri will succeed Dr. Ford as Region 2 Director.
