Stockton
Computer Society
I would like to offer Southern NJ AIAA, IEEE and IEEE Computer Society members the opportunity to get involved at Stockton College.
Recruit a Student for IEEE
In 2005, we were successful in establishing a local student chapter of IEEE at Stockton College. Do you have a child, spouse, neighbor, friend or even co-worker who's a student? If so, encourage them to join IEEE! Visit the IEEE Student Concourse for more information. Inviting a student to a monthly dinner meeting would be a great way to introduce someone to our local activities.
Share Your Expertise
The Stockton Computer Society has their regular meetings (usually every other Tuesday at 4:30) and presentations, such as Philip Holmer's Maglev talk, are very much appreciated. Students also enjoy a change from the usual routine and guest lecturers, such as Felicia Wescott who gave a talk in an Operating Systems class, enhance the classroom experience. There is also a Physics and Engineering seminar, and I'm sure other venues that have not yet been tapped.
Please contact me with your ideas for sharing your knowledge and together we can strengthen the links between Stockton College and SJ IEEE in ways that can benefit both us and the next generation of scientists and engineers.
Meanwhile visit the Stockton IEEE Student Chapter website here.

Communications Engineering Technology for Homeland Security
Presented by Bill Walsh
Thursday, March 27, 2003
Bill's presented an overview of the types of projects being pursued by the Communications Technology Group of the TSA at the William J. Hughes Technical Center. He also covered transportation security architecture components and other applicable technologies. In particular, we learned about some of the new technologies being developed for improving airport security.
Joe Burns, South Jersey IEEE Section Chair, joined us and presented a check to the Stockton Computer Society to show IEEE's support of student activities at Stockton.
THE TECHNOLOGY & BENEFITS OF FRICTIONLESS MAGLEV TRAVEL
Presented by Philip Holmer
Tuesday Dec 10, 2002
Computer Society students were joined by Physics and Engineering seminar students as well as several faculty members. In spite of the end of semester crunch, we had an excellent turnout for Philip's popular presentation.
Philip also spoke about the importance of involvement in professional societies, and gave a strong case for the career enhancing aspects of membership (a message that was even heard by several student officers whose ultimate goal in life is writing video games for Nintendo!). The intro flowed naturally into the fascinating topic of maglev, and was followed by a lively Q and A that extended well beyond the typical student seminar duration.
