ABSTRACT

While RUP (Rational Unified Process), XP, Agile methodologies, and other process lifecycles remain highly visible, an IEEE working group has been quietly updating the IEEE standard for the SOFTWARE PROJECT LIFE CYCLE that is applicable across a large variety of software engineering projects.

Join us on Thursday, September 25, to hear Tom Starai, a member of the P1074 workgroup, provide context, direction and status of the P1074 project to revise IEEE Std 1074, approved 9 Dec 1997. The objective of the P1074 project is to revise the standard to provide greater relevance to contemporary needs and provide greater harmony with other related standards.

The 1074 revision work group is addressing applications for rigorous development such as high security, high availability, and real-time applications. The work group will reinforce guidance that is additionally applicable to an enterprise and is compatible with contemporary development models and methodologies such as XP. The work group will address the relation to maturity process models. This presentation will discuss the revision process which will address additional issues surfaced by the community.
