IEEE Computer Society Technical Meeting

IEEE Virtual Presentation: AILC

Presentation Link: http://openvce.net/sites/default/files/David%20Fliesen/AILC%20Brief%20for%20SL.pdf

Presenter:

Dave Fliesen
Sonalysts, Inc.
(SL) Joey Aboma

Mr. Dave Fliesen presented the plan for the Artificial Intelligence Learning Center (AILC) for a Computer Society presence on IEEE Island in SL.  A description of the SL representation of the building to house the AILC is provided in the briefing found at the presentation link.

The AILC structure is a robot holding a globe.  The AILC work in progress is on the island now.  The globe is now a meeting room.  Other rooms will be built in the body and head of the robot.  Additional skyboxes are considered for more work spaces to support AI projects that require separation.  In SL, AI communicates via chat an instant message (IM) channels.  Unintended interaction of  AI objects under development is usually not desired.

The IEEE Computer Society is conducting virtual meetings on Second Life (SL).  We are building a technical meeting schedule as we are getting familiar with the environment and discussing topics.  The virtual meetings will eliminate travel and add convenience.  I have verified that SL will work on a laptop over an 802.11g connection (from a hotel room or airport).   In advance of the anticipated meeting schedule, I ecourage you to find a member of our group online.

We are increasingly attracting members to participate in our virtual meetings.  We expect to engage speakers from across the globe and have found interest across the country.   Several speakers have expressed interest.  Aside from the convenience of a virtual meeting, we will have projects that take advantage of the virtual environment.
