A goal of the chapter is to address the breadth and depth of our society interests.   We hope to provide presentations that will hit home of expand horizons.  First, we consider the wid range of professional affiliations of our members.  Please let me know if I missed any.

  • Government, SETA, FFRDC/labs, consultants
  • System/Enterprise/Process Architects
  • Manufacturing, Professional Services, System/Product Developers, Sales/Support
  • Faculty, Students

Categories of interests include the following.  Again let me know if I haven’t covered an area of interest.

  • Software Quality, Architecture (including SOA), Process and Process Improvement
  • Agile programming, reliable systems, data management and data sharing
  • Algorithm development, modeling and simulation
  • Systems Engineering, Standards
  • Information Assurance, Information Technology
  • Networking, SW&FW, embedded/RT Applications
  • Science and Technology, Innovation
  • Professional and Society interests

On venues, I hope you noticed that we have a standard monthly meeting at MITRE (and other VTC sites) for which we are teaming with the Association for Software Quality and Software Special Interest Group.  We are looking to add VTC sites to add convenience to meeting attendance.  If you register for dial-in, our MITRE host will provide a phoned number and email the briefing material.  I’ve plugging in when out of the area.

We are looking for members to suggest venues for special events or additional regular meetings.  We can find companies and universities to present projects, trends and technology.  We try to avoid sales pitches but the reality of the motivation cannot be entirely eliminated.

We are also looking to pioneer web cast meeting in our area to mitigate travelling.  We are also looking at other IEEE virtual resources to deliver content.

We have a long queue of potential topics and speakers but we are limited by venue opportunity.  A critical mass of volunteers is needed  to sponsor a conference of other major event.

Since computers are ubiquitous in applications, we cosponsor events with other IEEE societies.  We collaborate with other societies like ACM and are reaching out to other organizations.  Supporting events at student chapters is a priority.

I’ll conclude with a pitch to join our chapter executive committee to help manage our goals and execution.
