IEEE Gainesville Section Presents New 3G Standard WiMax: Introduction & Research By Dr. Wenchao Ma Lenovo Corporate Research & Development Beijing, China Date: Monday, November 19, 2007 Time: 11:40-12:40pm Place: 330 Larsen Hall Abstract WiMax (a.k.a. IEEE 802.16e) is the latest 3G standard and currently being deployed in more than 65 countries. The WiMax system is based on the OFDM technology supporting adaptive modulation, flexible bandwidth allocation, Hybrid ARQ protocols and some other advanced technologies. WiMax for sure will become the mainstream TDD 3G system in the near future. In this seminar, the speaker will give a brief introduction on the WiMax network architecture and related research works on the WiMax RRM (radio resource management) under various architectures together with the current status of the WiMax standardization progress. Speaker¡¯s Biography Dr. Wenchao Ma received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, China, in 1995 and 1998, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from University of Florida, Gainesville, in 2003. From 1998 to 1999, he was an Engineer with China Telecom. He worked with Microsoft Research Asia from 2003 to 2005 as a researcher and currently works with Lenovo Corporate Research & Development as senior researcher.
