Membership Development Report for October 2009: As of September 24, 2009, there were 1432 active members of all grades in the Orlando Section. This is an decrease from 1452 members as of August 27, 2009. The decrease could be the result of how member grades were retabulated in August. A comparison of membership counts by grade for the last three reporting periods is shown below. Overall membership should increase in the October reporting period due to Membership Development initiatives launched in September targeted at recruiting new Student Members and Graduate Student Members. Over the 31 days, ending on September 24, 2009, 37 new members joined the Orlando Section: 0 Associate; 2 Members; 27 Student Members; and 8 Graduate Student Members. Many of the new Student Members joined after a very successful Kick-off Drive hosted at the University of Central Florida by Vinit Todi and the IEEE Student Group at UCF. See the attached list of new members in the Orlando Section. Over the 31 days, ending on September 24, 2009, 17 existing IEEE members moved to the Orlando Section: 1 Associate Member, 1 Graduate Student Member, 2 Life Members, 8 Members, and 5 Student Members. See the attached list of incoming existing members to the Orlando Section. The webcast of the September 2009 Membership Development Conference Call, webcast on September 19, 2009, is attached as a compressed (.zip) file. Three events were conducted in September to recruit new members or upgrade current member in the Orlando Section: the Membership Drive focusing on Senior Member grade elevation on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at DeVry University; the Kick-off Student Membership Drive on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at UCF; and an IEEE PowerPoint Presentation given to over 100 students at the Engineering Organizations Open Forum on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at Valencia Community College, West Campus. The VCC event was the result of an invitation by Dr. Deborah Hall, a Member of the IEEE Orlando Section and a VCC faculty member. At the VCC event, updated member recruitment materials were distributed to the student attendees following the presentations: information for 2010 on current IEEE competitions for Student Members and associated prizes were presented; details of the scholarships available to Student Members were discussed. Furthermore, on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, Dr. Donghui Wu met with the staff mentors and members of the(non-IEEE) technical student group at DeVry University in Orlando to encourage interested members to become IEEE Student Members. Over the next several weeks, the Orlando Section should experience membership growth as the result of ongoing recruitment initiatives.
