Message from the Chair : Next Meeting : SoutheastCon 2001 : Officers
Mark Stokes
Well, it’s that time of year again for food fellowship and DEADLINES!! In keeping with the traditional Holiday meeting/party, we are having our meeting this year in Greenville. In changing the meting back to Greenville, it has become apparent to me that the Greenville location is more desired among most members. So, now that I have more of you coming to a meeting, what can I do to get more of you involved in the IEEE? Well, I leave that up to you to make that judgement.
Don’t forget this is the last paper copy of a newsletter you will be getting until March. If you still require a paper copy of the newsletter to be mailed to you, please contact one of the officers to be included in the very limited paper edition of our future newsletters. We will be keeping up with the web version so that the latest information about our section can still be obtained.
Because of this, I thought I should mention what is happening in January and February of next year. In January (probably around the 25th), we will be having our annual student paper competition at Clemson. This is a chance for the students to show what they have been studing and to hopefully hone their presentation skills. We have had a good bit of success in past years in this competition as a section. Please come out to support our candidates for next year by coming to the meeting. Remember, these students will be competing at this years SoutheastCon 2001 in Clemson. It would be very nice to have some of our own Piedmont section students win the competition in April.
The Second event to watch out for is National Engineers Week. Every year we send a handful of engineers to speak at local area schools in association with the ASPE. This year is no exception. We are looking for engineers to volunteer their time to work with students as a part of this program next year February 18-24. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Nick Pasquerilla. Also visit http://www.eweek.org/ for more information on National Engineers Week.
Please let me and other officers know what the IEEE can do for you. Suggest programs of interest to you, volunteer, and most of all, use the IEEE to advance your engineering career. Happy holidays and we’ll see you in December.
