A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Nancy Gunderson
The votes for meeting night were both to keep the status quo. Therefore, meeting night will remain the third Thursday of each month. I received one positive and one negative opinion about holding an Internet seminar, and a final decision has not been made.
Again this year, we are speaking to middle and high schools about careers in engineering. The speaker will be provided with a video and handouts. Most opportunities are during National Engineers’ Week and in Greenville. Contact Nick Pasquerilla if you are interested in encouraging future engineers.
You may have noticed the outer pages of this mailing are for a conference. This conference is a yearly event. This year, the IEEE speaker is a member of our section, Dave Hulett. Dave will be speaking on the year 2000 problems which may arise in automated production processes.
At the SoutheastCon (SeCon 98) in April, the Piedmont Section will be submitting a bid to host SoutheastCon 2001. This conference has student contests, technical paper presentations and seminars by professional members, and IEEE officer meetings. Good luck to Dave Hulett who will present our proposal to the Region 3 Conference Committee.

Next Meeting

February 19, 1998
NETWORKING
Steven Bobo
This months meeting will be a networking session with the 46 May and August graduating seniors from Clemson University. This meeting will be an informal social atmosphere with an emphasis on introducing graduating seniors to Piedmont section members and industry professionals. A few introductory activities will be presented to encourage the interaction of students and IEEE members. Members are encouraged to bring business cards for distribution to students. We encourage as many professionals as possible to attend. The intention of this session is not a job search for the students, merely a chance to meet and interact with professionals of the same basic interests and to encourage students to continue participation in IEEE after graduation. The meal will be pizza and soft drinks.

Next Month’s Meeting
DSP

Mark Stokes
The March meeting will feature Anna Smith on DSP. Anna is currently working for Hamilton Hallmark. She has her BSEE from UCLA and has completed many training classes from Hamilton.

Calling all PE’s!!

Nick Pasquerilla
If you are a registered engineer (PE) in South Carolina you may want to attend an information session being organized by the IEEE. On Thursday May 21, 1998 we will have a presentation on the new law concerning Continuing Education Requirements for PE's that will be effective in July. Someone from the State Board of Registration will be at Greenville Tech that evening to discuss this law and answer questions. More info to come in future newsletters.

Remember, the pIEEEdmont Potential is still available via three methods:

Piedmont Section Web Page Update

Adib Chebli
The Piedmont Section maintains a web site at http://www.carol.net/ieee. This web site offers information about the activities and calendar of events of the Piedmont Section. Our newsletter, the "pIEEEdmont potential" can also be accessed through this web page, with the 1996 and 1997 back issues available on-line.
There have been two recent additions worth noting to the "EE Links of Interest" on the web page. One is a link to the new South Carolina Council of the IEEE web page. The other new link is to a EE job search page that is fairly comprehensive. This web page is maintained as a non-profit service and is definitely worth checking out.
Please visit the web site of the Piedmont Section and drop us a line while you're at it.
