The Piedmont Section of the IEEE, with assistance from Region 3 has financially sponsored FIRST team 343 for 2003. Team 343 is the "Metal-in-Motion" Robotics Team from Oconee County SC. The excerpt below is from the FIRST website www.usfirst.org:
"FIRST inspires in young people, their schools and communities an appreciation of science and technology, and of how mastering these can enrich the lives of all.
Corporate America provides economic and professional support to FIRST. Many Fortune 500 companies have significantly helped FIRST grow and are committed to its continued progress. Government organizations such as NASA are key partners in this worthwhile cause. FIRST represents a cooperative team effort by students, teachers, communities, corporations, and our government."
Your Executive Committee decided to sponsor this team not only because it is a worthwhile activity but also to try to get more of our members involved in this program. Web sites of some of the teams in our area are provided below. These teams need help not only financially, but could use your help with technical assistance for their robots design and fabrication. If you are currently involved or become involved in the future, please let one of the listed officers know.

IEEE-SA Launches Portal for the Americas
IEEE Scoop
The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) has launched StandardsAmericas(TM), a Web portal for its standards community in North, Central and South America. The portal supports those who want to learn about, participate in and access technical standards, especially in the fields of IT, telecommunications, and power and energy. It also integrates information on IEEE-SA's offerings with relevant regional and global links related to the IEEE and other standards development organizations.
The IEEE-SA launched its first geographical portal, StandardsAsia(TM), in July. It will publicly introduce StandardsEurope(TM) during the first quarter of 2003.
