Welcome to the Piedmont potential for 1999. For a short while, I have been trying to come up with something to chat about for my first attempt at a letter from the chair. I remember a couple of years ago when Glenn talked about his experience at a Southeast Con. I'm afraid I don't have any stories nearly as amazing to tell about my experience in the IEEE. However, I have had my success because of it.
Since I am now filling the role of chairman, I can use this space to try to get more meat for the newsletter. The newsletter of many other sections has many articles on interesting topics written by members. I am constantly trying to find articles to include here in the newsletter. If you have an interesting story about how the IEEE has helped you, please send me a copy of a short blurb. Maybe all of us can benefit from the information you have.
There are many interesting and useful programs available to the IEEE members that most of us have no knowledge. Some of the programs, such as the job service, are quite useful in these times of constant job changes. Over the coming months, I will try to present many of the opportunities and programs offered to us by the IEEE.
One last thing I will mention, is the need for ideas for topics of discussion at our meetings. Many great topics have been discussed in the past, and I'm sure there are thousands of things that our members are interested in learning more about. Especially when the meetings are free! So, if you have a topic you are interested in learning more about, please let one of the officers know. Steven Bobo, our new Vice-Chair, will be happy to find an expert to come in and talk about whatever topics you are interested.
