Organic Vegetables!

You are what you eat. Concerned about pesticides, herbicides, and genetically modified foods? Interested in expanding or starting your own garden? Exploring new recipie ideas for this season's harvest? Then this months meeting is for you! It's time for our annual "non-technical" meeting. It probably doesn’t sound much like an EE topic, but I'm sure there are some gardeners out there (like me) and others that are interested in organic gardening. Lindsay Esterly, a recent graduate M.S. in Horticulture from Clemson University manages a two-acre organic farm as part of a non-profit organization just north of Salem, SC. She has recently begun an organic food cooperative in the Clemson area. The community supported agriculture project offers seasonal herbs, vegetables, and recipie ideas to local residents. Ms. Esterly has experience in organic gardening and did her masters thesis on Heirloom vegetables at Clemson.

Also, last fall I had promised a free dinner (because of the saved mailing costs), and this month is the first time we are going to try it. In order for this to work, however, I absolutely must know ahead of time if you are going to attend the dinner. Therefore, please RSVP the dinner by Tuesday, May 22, 2001. As far as the program, that will start around 7:30pm and also is free (I prefer RSVP for this also, however it is less necessary).

When: Thursday, May 24, 2001
Agenda:
6:30pm - Social 1/2 hour
7:00pm - Dinner
7:30pm - Program

As I mentioned, dinner is free for all IEEE members and students. Guest dinners will be $5. Please RSVP by Tuesday, May 22, 2001 to me at: m.stokes@ieee.org .For directions to the Inn, please call: 864-233-8018. I will provide a carpool at the Ramada Inn in Clemson. I plan to leave at or around 6:00pm (I will have a late model green Toyota Sienna).

Getting the Newsletter too late to make the meeting? Have an email address? Send it to me. I am usually done with the newsletter more than a week in advance of the meeting, however, because of printing times, USPS, etc., it doesn’t arrive until just before the meeting. I do send the newsletter via email right after I write it! I can email it to you as soon as it’s done! The newsletter will come in plain text. It is also available online at the web page listed above.
