A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Glenn Bishof
If you are responsible for new hire engineers, please think back to when you were a new graduate periodically and consider some of the things you were not taught in school that you now take for granted. The following list was submitted by an engineer to Electrical Engineering Times that might help remind you of the finer points of your career:
Top ten Things Engineering School Didn’t Teach Me:

Be sympathetic toward new grads. you will need them later.

The use of telemedicine - having a visit with a physician or specialist occur over communication lines instead of in person - is spreading. At this month’s meeting, Dr. Donna Millar, an internist with the Greenville Hospital System, will discuss her recent projects on the use of telemedicine.
Two projects focused on establishing medical offices staffed by nurse practitioners, with the physician back-up was conducted via telemedicine. Another project studied the use of telemedicine to manage wound care patients who were home bound.
Speaker background:
In addition to patient duties as an internist, Dr. Donna Millar is also Director of the Department of Community Medicine and Medical Director of Home Health for the Greenville Hospital System. The telemedicine projects were sponsored by research grants from the Appalachian Regional Commission and the Duke Endowment. Meeting details:
When: Thursday, May 15
Location: Colonial Quest, formerly Colonial Inn, 755 Wade Hampton Blvd. Dinner will be served.

The cost is $10.00 for members and guests and $5.00 for students. There is no charge to attend the meeting. Please make reservations by calling or emailing one of the people listed at the end of the newsletter, even if you will attend only the presentation!!
