A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Nancy Gunderson
GOOD NEWS! At the Southeastern Conference for IEEE held 24-26 April in Orlando, Florida, our section proposed hosting the conference for the year 2001. Our proposal to hold the conference on Clemson’s campus was accepted!! Over the next two years, we will need many volunteers to organize and host the 300 attendees who present technical papers, participate in student hardware and software competitions, and “run” the sections of the IEEE Region 3. We have a lot of work ahead of us!
Congratulations to Thomas Macdonald, a second-year master’s student at Clemson, for receiving a fellowship from the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Educational Foundation. Thomas won one of the two $25,000 fellowships awarded annually. His research is in the area of mobile wireless communications networks.
