Greenville Engineering Explorer post
Lee Stogner
On Tuesday, November 19 we will be having a very special Piedmont Section Meeting that will give our organization a chance to give important career advice to students here in the upstate of South Carolina. We will be having a joint meeting with the Greenville Engineering Explorer Post. This post is made up of High School Students from the local area that are thinking about a career in Engineering. Today Scouting is not just about camping and Merit Badges, it's also about making strategic decisions that can affect the rest of a young person's life. In the Greenville area, a number of career oriented Explorer Posts have been created. The Engineering Explorer Post was started last year and has had a series of meetings and tours that benefit prospective engineers. The Post's monthly schedule consists of a joint meeting and a tour meeting. Each month the students get to hear engineers of a different discipline talk about their specialty and what they do. November is Electrical Engineering Month.
At this month’s meeting, we "all" will get the chance to show off our work and our careers. We'll begin with a short video introducing Electrical Engineering and the IEEE. Then I would like to turn things over to you the membership to talk about your projects at work. To make this possible, please bring something from your work whether it is a product or "thing" that you have created using your Electrical Engineering skills. It can be hardware or software or ?. Think of this as "show and tell" but with the important goal of intriguing and inspiring a young mind. You never know what will grow from the seed you will plant.
The meeting place will be the Fluor cafeteria. Dress is casual and food will be provided. We'll be expecting to see you there.

Nick Pasquerilla
The Piedmont Section would like to offer section meetings on the topics below. However, we are not aware of anyone in our area that specializes in these segments and would like assistance. If you can do a one-hour presentation or know someone who can, please contact one of the officers. Of course any other topic suggestions are welcome!!
South Carolina Council Web Site
Lee Stogner
The South Carolina Council of the IEEE has been working to create a web site that will support the professional and career needs of electrical engineers based in our state. The new web site contains important IEEE links, real time news feeds and a wealth of other links that will connect the engineer with technology and job related resources. The South Carolina Council of the IEEE invites all electrical engineers in the state to use this important resource and make it their start page each morning. The page can be found at, http://ewh.ieee.org/r3/south_carolina_council/.
Give it a try and let them know what you think.
