Upcoming Local IEEE Events

Thursday, 03 December 2009 - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Forensic Audio, Video and Image Analysis Unit (FAVIAU) at the Engineering Research Facility (ERF) in Quantico, Virginia and Audio Authenticity Issues.

The mission of the FBI Forensic Audio, Video and Image Analysis Unit (FAVIAU) is to provide local and federal law enforcement agencies technical, scientific, and forensic services on Digital Evidence submissions.

William L. Hinton, an Electronics Engineer with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will present an overview of FAVIAU operations and discuss how the unit deals with Audio Authenticity examinations. William Hinton's presentation will include some historical background regarding early FBI efforts in Audio Authenticity with the Nixon White House Tapes, as well recent work in digital audio authenticity and how it relates to the national power grid.

Call for Nominations - 2010 IEEE Richmond Executive Committee

Volunteer Officer Nominations Make a Difference

NOMINATINATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED!

The IEEE Richmond Section Nominations Committee hereby solicits volunteers to serve on the 2010 IEEE Richmond Executive Committee (ExCom).

Available positions are Section Chair, Section Vice Chair, Section Secretary, Section Treasurer, and ExCom Member-at-large (4). Job descriptions and explanations for the four officer positions can be found at http://www.ieee.org/officers/. Members-at-large represent their fellow members in the deliberations and votes of the ExCom.

IEEE members (including Life Members) of the following member grades are eligible:

Your may nominate yourself, or another individual. The Nominations Committee will consider all nominations and recommendations. To nominate candidates please complete the on-line nominations form.

Even if you prefer not to submit a formal nomination, we would still like to have the names of candidates whom you would recommend for office, as volunteers, or prospective future candidates. We will follow-up to confirm interest, compile necessary information, and help identify appropriate opportunities for them to gain volunteer experience in the IEEE.

Remember, self-nominations are allowed and welcome.

Under the leadership of IEEE Richmond Section volunteers, IEEE has launched a new pre-university technical education and career preparation program, IEEE GirlsGoEngineering.org

IEEE GirlsGoEngineering.org will provide girls, educators, and adult leaders with programs, activities, material, and web resources to:

  • Develop in girls an appreciation for engineering principles.
  • Enable girls to learn to enjoy engineering practices.
  • Energize girls toward careers in engineering, mathematics, and the physical sciences.

The 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America® will attract 40,000 young people from the USA and several other countries to Ft. A.P. Hill, VA for the 2010 National Scout Jamboree®.

The IEEE emeritbadges.org Project, which started in the IEEE Richmond Section in 1981, is sponsoring the Electricity Merit Badge™ Booth and the Electronics Merit Badge Booth at the Jamboree. The Jamboree will be held 26 July 2010 to 4 August 2010 at Ft. A.P. Hill, VA.
