The meeting convened at 4:30 pm at Zorba’s
restaurant in Columbia, S.C. The attendees were Nancy Gunderson, Marilene
Guardia-Baker, John Montague, Steve Carroll, Lee Stogner, David Mills,
Dick Riddle, Allen Thomas, and Brent Baker.
Meeting Schedule
Council meetings are open to all IEEE
members. At a minimum, Council Officers and Section Chairs are expected.
If you cannot attend, please send me your updates. Section Chairs
may send an alternate attendee. Please make announcement of these
meetings in your local section and chapter meetings and newsletters.
The next meeting is:
January 15th @ 7:30 p.m.

BYLAWS
Worked on revising bylaws for the
council – the section chairs will have to review the changes for more
possible revisions and a final vote will have to made concerning these
changes
NEW BUSINESS
- Lee Stogner announced that the
SC Council website has been expanded to include a new section to
help unemployed engineers get in contact with companies for interviews
for prospective employment
- George McClure will hold an MPAC
session with the Florida West Coast Section to help with possible
training for employment assistance
John Montague suggested starting
some sort of electrical-based device competition between high schools
in the state, possibly sponsored and supported by the sections
Dick Riddle reiterated that Jim Howard
wanted the Council and sections to know that Region 3 has money/funds
available for special projects/tasks
The student paper contest is tentatively
set for March 1st
Nancy Gunderson announced her resignation
from the Council’s treasurer’s duties effective at the end of the
current year
SECTION EVENTS FOR REMAINDER OF YEAR
Columbia Section – Will have section
meetings on November 11th concerning P.E. requirements and December
(Christmas party)
Piedmont Section – Will have two
meetings in November, November 5th and 11th,
both with the intention of involving students
Savannah Section – Will have a section
meeting on November 11th; are in process of writing a report
concerning the Sections Congress trip
Coastal Section – Made note of 38
people in attendance for their last meeting and they sent their section
vice-chair to the Sections Congress
BUDGET
Bank account currently contains a
balance of $5971.62 (including the SoutheastCon 2002 distribution
portion)
DISMISSAL
The meeting adjourned at 7:45 pm.
