Meeting Schedule

Council meetings are open to all IEEE members. At a minimum, Council Officers and Section Chairs are expected. If you cannot attend, please send me your updates. Section Chairs may send an alternate attendee. Please make announcement of these meetings in your local section and chapter meetings and newsletters. The next meeting is:

November 9 @ 4:30 p.m. at Zorba’s restaurant

INITIAL/INTRODUCTORY COMMENTS

  • Jim Howard wanted all sections to receive notice of the upcoming Region 3 meeting in Atlanta on Nov. 21-23; he noted that the Region will fully fund one representative for each section to attend the Region meeting and will pay for food costs for a second attendee

  • Brent B. approved motion for meeting minutes approval for May 4 meeting – Allen T. seconded

  • John M.’s treasurer report showed that the council has $4985.55 in its account and the budget for next year totals $2650; Allen T. made motion to accept John’s treasurer report – Lee S. seconded
  • Marilene noted the SRC section is active w/ monthly meetings and the coastal section is doing good w/ a new chapter – the Columbia section had a meeting scheduled for October 13th.
  • Marilene asked how to get student chapters involved – Dave G. suggested getting a branch mentor position to connect student branches to the Council – Lee S. suggested calling and inviting branch counselors to the next council meeting in Columbia

OLD BUSINESS

· Bylaws have been approved per Marilene

NEW BUSINESS

  • Region 3 awards nominations are due in November – need to make sections aware so that they can obtain nominees
  • Lee S. and Becky Stogner created a password protection for roster information – need to update upon confirmation of new officers after November election

  • Allen T. shared two items of business concerning the SC Council of Engineering & Surveying Societies(SCCESS): 1) He received an invoice for 2003-04 dues in the amount of $100 (he will forward the invoice to John M.) – Allen T. has also been elected as President-Elect for 2003-04; 2) The second item concerns the SC Building Code Board having put into the revised statute that the Excom of the SCCESS will submit a list of qualified candidates to the Governor for his selection of one to serve a four year term on the board – the current engineering representative (Greg Parsons) is interested in serving in that capacity – he is a civil engineer and a P.E. - the SCCESS board has asked to contact its member societies (of which IEEE is one) to see if any of our members would have an interest in this position – a list is needed for the Governor by mid November – Allen T. will send an e-mail to section chairs about this
  • Lee S. brought up the senior member upgrade campaign going on – we need to encourage local sections to use the time between now and November 12th to get members to send in their applications
  • The council will have officer elections at the next face-to-face meeting on November 9th @ Zorba’s restaurant at 4:30 p.m.; nominees are: Steve C. – chair, Brent B. – vice-chair, John M. – treasurer, Richard Baker – secretary
