The meeting convened at 7:30 pm at Zorba's Restaurant in Columbia, SC. The attendees were Allen Thomas, Steve Carroll, Richard Coleman, Brent Baker, and I.
Meeting Schedule
Council meetings are open to all IEEE members. At a minimum, Council Officers and Section Chairs are expected. If you cannot attend, please send me your updates. Section Chairs may send an alternate attendee. Please make announcement of these meetings in your local section and chapter meetings and newsletters. The next meeting is:
Thursday, January 17, at Zorba's in northwest Columbia. For directions, contact Steve Carroll.
Meal starts at 6:30 and meeting starts at 7:30.
Financial
Balance as of September 30, 2001 was $1239. The Council still owes SC Council of Engineering and Surveying Societies for the 2001 dues. The recently paid dues were for the 2000 fiscal year. Central Savannah is expected to pay their Council dues for the past two years.
BYLAWS
The proposed bylaws have been posted on the Council web site. On the main page for the Council, click Bylaws, then "Click here for proposed bylaws". As sections vote on the proposed bylaws, the vote results need to be sent to either Nancy Gunderson or Brent Baker.
AWARDS
No awards nominations have been received.
STUDENT PAPER CONTEST
Decided to increase the award levels to $150 for first, $100 for second, and $75 for third. State level contest will be in February. ACTION ITEM: STUDENT BRANCH COUNSELORS need to send calendar restrictions for contest dates to gundersn@squared.com. This is still an open item from the previous Council meeting.
New Business
Nancy needs to send the Executive committee list to Lee Stogner for posting on the Council web site.
Officer Elections were held. The officers for next year are: Marilene Guardia-Baker, Chair; Steve Carroll, vice-chair; Nancy Gunderson, treasurer; and Brent Baker, secretary.
Council decided to not participate in the Joint Engineering Conference in March due to the constraints of Southeast Conference ’02 on the more active Council members.
Dismissal
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.
